Dust, sunscreen and salty skin tend to follow you into the tent.
A short rinse at camp can make bedtime a lot more comfortable. Start with a clean water source, a shower that suits your setup and somewhere permitted for the runoff to go.
Our camping showers guide covers the different types, the water you'll need and how to put the kit together. It includes simple bucket setups and options for longer 4WD trips.
Work out your shower allowance after you've set aside water for drinking and cooking.

The drive is done. Camp is set. You've still got the day's dust on you.
Keep a portable shower and a measured supply of clean water somewhere you can reach without unpacking the whole vehicle. A short rinse before bed is easier when the kit is ready.
Choose stable ground, check the campsite's wastewater rules and keep your drinking supply separate. A bucket can make it easier to see exactly how much shower water you've got left.
Our camping showers guide goes through the options, water planning and setup checks for weekend camps and longer trips.

A weekend beach camp and a month on the road can need different shower setups.
Gravity bags keep the kit simple. Manual-pressure showers run without a battery. A 12V shower needs a suitable connection and enough cable reach. Rechargeable showers give you more freedom to choose your wash area. Dedicated hot-water systems need extra gear and the correct installation.
Start with the water you'll carry, the charging options you have and how often you'll use it. Our guide compares the types so you can choose around your trip.

Before you buy a camping shower, check the space and water you've already got.
A gravity bag needs a support that can safely hold it full. A manual-pressure unit needs pumping. A 12V model keeps you within reach of a suitable supply. A rechargeable shower needs charging before the trip and enough stored water for the group.
If you want water heated by the unit, look at a purpose-built hot-water system and follow its setup instructions.
There's no single answer for every campsite. Choose around your trip length, wash area and the kit you're prepared to carry.

A 10L bucket goes quickly if you leave the shower running.
At the Niche shower's stated 1.5L/min setting, 5 minutes of continuous flow uses about 7.5L. At 2L/min, the same running time uses about 10L.
Use those figures to plan the shower water for your group. Keep drinking and cooking water out of that allowance, then decide how much pump-on time each person gets.
Turning the flow off to wash reduces the running time. Our guide has the calculation and examples for couples and families.

How long does your shower stay switched on?
At the stated low-flow setting of 1.5L/min, 5 continuous minutes uses about 7.5L. At 2L/min, it uses about 10L. Those are calculated examples, not a promise that everyone will use the same amount.
Count the minutes the pump runs, then multiply by the number of showers. Leave your drinking and cooking water separate.
Wetting down, pausing to wash and restarting to rinse can reduce the pump-on time. Measuring the water into a bucket before you start makes the allowance clear for everyone at camp.

The shower doesn't need to run for the whole wash.
Wet down on the lower setting, switch the water off to wash, then turn it back on to rinse. You'll use less water than leaving the same flow running throughout.
Our camp shower has controls in the head unit, so you can pause without walking back to the water container. Try the controls at home before the trip.
For a shared camp, agree on the water allowance first. The guide shows how to calculate it using flow rate and pump-on time.

Give everyone at camp the same water-saving routine.
Start on the lower flow setting and wet down. Switch off the water to wash, then restart for the rinse. The amount you use depends on how long the pump stays on.
The Niche camp shower puts the controls in the head unit, within reach during the wash. Get familiar with the buttons before leaving home so you aren't working them out with shampoo in your hair.
Set a shower allowance for the group after reserving water for drinking and meals. A measured bucket keeps that allowance easy to see.

Check whether a portable shower heats water before you buy it.
Many rechargeable showers, including the Niche camp shower, move water from a container without heating it. For a warm wash, prepare the water separately, mix it in a suitable container and test the final temperature.
Follow the manufacturer's permitted temperature range. Never send boiling water through the pump, hose or fittings. Check the mixture yourself before washing children.
The guide explains the difference between pump showers and dedicated hot-water systems, plus the preparation each setup needs.

A rechargeable shower can pump warm water you've prepared separately.
It doesn't turn a cold bucket into a hot shower. Check the unit's permitted temperature range, mix warm and cold water in a suitable container, then test the final temperature before connecting the shower.
Keep hot pots away from the wash area and work on stable ground. Never send boiling water through the pump, hose or fittings. An adult should check the mixture before children use it.

A bucket is a practical starting point for a portable shower.
You can see the water level, measure the allowance and prepare warm water separately in a suitable container. Keep the bucket stable and the intake submerged, clear of grit at the bottom.
The Niche camp shower includes a filtered intake for a suitable container. Use clean water and follow the care instructions for the fitting.
Before the weekend, test the full setup at home and check your hose reaches the wash area. Our guide walks through the bucket option.

You can start with a clean bucket and a shower that has a suitable intake.
Measure the water before the wash so the allowance is clear. Place the container where it won't tip and keep the intake submerged, away from sand and sediment.
The Niche camp shower includes a filtered intake for this kind of setup. That fitting doesn't make untreated water safe, so choose a suitable clean supply.
A bucket is handy for short rinses and makes it easy to see how much is left. Test the shower at home, including the hose reach and controls, before taking it camping.

Already carrying a Niche water bladder for camp?
Our shower includes a hose quick-connect fitting for connection to a compatible Niche Outdoors water bladder. Check your particular fittings before the trip and test the full setup at home.
Lay out the hose so it won't kink or pull sideways on the connection. Keep it clear of feet and disconnect everything before moving the vehicle.
A direct connection can save transferring water into a bucket. You'll still need a shower allowance that protects the water reserved for drinking and cooking.

Check the connection before you pack the shower.
The Niche camp shower includes a quick-connect fitting for a compatible Niche Outdoors water bladder. Match the fittings on your setup and test them together at home. Don't assume every container or connector will fit.
Position the hose to avoid tight bends, sideways strain and trip hazards. Make sure everyone knows the shower is connected before moving anything around the vehicle.
Drawing directly from the bladder can save filling a separate bucket. Keep track of the water used and protect the amount you've reserved for drinking and cooking.

Five minutes at home can save a frustrating first shower at camp.
Charge the unit, connect the hose and intake, then run it from a clean container. Try both flow settings and the stop/start controls. Check for leaks, loose fittings and any sharp bends in the hose.
Pack the charging cable with the kit and confirm the hose reaches your planned wash area.
The Niche shower includes a 2m hose. Measure your own layout before relying on it to reach from the vehicle to a privacy tent.

A charged shower still needs enough water for the trip.
The Niche camp shower has a 2500mAh USB-C rechargeable battery and a stated runtime of up to 90 minutes. That's a battery figure, not a shower-water allowance.
Charge before leaving, pack the cable and work out your water needs from the flow setting, running time and number of users. Keep water for meals and drinking separate.
Dry the unit and charging port before plugging it in. For long storage, follow the manufacturer's battery-care instructions.

Put the shower cable with the rest of the kit before you leave.
Our camp shower charges by USB-C and has a 2500mAh battery with a stated runtime of up to 90 minutes. Actual use depends on conditions and settings, so charge it before the trip.
Plan the water supply separately. A battery that keeps running won't refill a bucket, and shower water needs to fit around drinking and cooking needs.
Dry the unit and charging port before connecting the cable. Follow the manufacturer's battery-care instructions between trips and don't charge a damaged or unusually hot unit.

A damp hose left in a bag can make the next trip unpleasant.
After use, drain the hose and fittings. Rinse the intake as instructed and let the parts dry before packing them away. If the shower has drawn from anything other than a clean container, run clean water through it.
Use only cleaners the manufacturer permits. Check the hose and seals before the next trip, and dry the charging port before connecting a cable.
Our guide covers the care routine and the small parts worth keeping together in the storage bag.

Do the pack-down before the wet kit ends up forgotten in the back of the car.
Switch the shower off, disconnect the hose and let the water drain. Rinse the intake or filter according to the instructions and remove any visible grit. Give every part time to dry before it goes into the bag.
Check the manual before using cleaners. Strong chemicals can damage seals or filter materials.
Keep the cable and connection fittings together, then charge and test the unit before the next trip. A dry hose and clean intake make the next setup much more pleasant.
